At Metro Vancouver, I have the pleasure of leading a department of 30+ staff who create innovative behaviour-change campaigns for the region; do media relations, issues management, and emergency operations centre activities; and undertake communications and engagement on some of the Province's largest infrastructure projects (including the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant Projects, the Coquitlam Lake Water Supply Project, and the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant Project). Each day, I'm working hard with my team to support climate action, reconciliation, and equity across the region through the services that Metro Vancouver provides.

Managed team of four, plus consultants, supporting engineering and sustainability departments at the City of Vancouver during Vancouver's involvement with COP21, launch of the Renewable City Strategy, and release of 5-year cycling plan (among others).

Working in the portfolio area of engineering and sustainability, including transportation, street activities, water works, district energy systems, solid waste/recycling/green bin, and sustainability initiatives related to the Greenest City Action Plan. Roles include creating tactical and strategic communications plan, media relations, issues management, and marketing as part of a team that handles over 3,000 media calls each year. In addition to working cross departmentally to identify strategic communication and marketing/outreach opportunities, I coach media spokespeople and coordinate press conferences and interviews as needed. Notable recent projects include the Renewable City Strategy, Greenest City Action Plan Refresh, Bright Green Summer, 2014 municipal Vancouver election outreach campaign, Keep Vancouver Spectacular, Block Party Season, VIVA Granville and other VIVA Vancouver programs, expansion of the Green Bin program to multi-unit residential buildings, Doors Open Vancouver. Issues and communication management for 2015 water restrictions and major road works projects such as Point Grey / Cornwall, Burrard Bridge, filming of Deadpool Viaduct closure, and more.

Spokesperson.Developed the communications, marketing, and public relations for a mid-sized museum that's increasingly lauded as one of the leading contemporary museum's in Canada. Developed an award-winning marketing plan for making huge strides in awareness of the MOV while under large employee and budget constraints. Created, implemented, and oversaw communication and marketing plans for exhibitions including: "Neon Vancouver | Ugly Vancouver", "Art Deco Chic", "Object(ing): the art/design of Tobias Wong", "Sex Talk in the City", "The Visible City", and "Play House: the architecture of Daniel Evan White".Oversaw and implemented communications for events, exhibitions, and general MOV awareness. Managed communications and marketing on traditional, print, advertising, social media platforms, web (copy writing and updates). Liaised with contractors, tourism industry, promotional partners and advertising reps.Unofficial chair of the Vanier Park communications team, uniting sales and comms members from the MOV, Space Centre, Maritime Museum, Vancouver Academy of Music, Bard on the Beach, Vancouver Trolley, and Burrard Marina on common issues including: The Winter Wander, a hugely successful one-day collective effort at bringing new people to Vanier Park and raisin the profile of a long-neglected city treasure; installation of a right turn lane at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Cornwall Avenue during the pre-planning for the new Burrard/Cornwall intersection; coordination of the development, design, and sign-off of new Vanier Park wayfinding signage, to be installed in late 2014. Developed, managed and produced the "Vancouver has a museum?" campaign, garnering attention from CBC for its quirky approach

Internal and external communications for one of Vancouver's most popular attractions (650,000+ visitors in 2010/11) during its $35 million dollar renovation period. Team member for the building's new way finding signage, and project lead for the information story signs now seen throughout the building. Was part of the team which developed "Extreme Dinosaurs", a now internationally travelling exhibition. Developed and maintained communications during exhibitions including "Treasure" and the internationally renowned "Body World". Assisted in development of copy for the creation of the new "Our World" and the "Ken Spencer Science Park".Planned and hosted the Expo 86 25th anniversary party, Science World's largest 'adult night' to date with 400+ guests, as a creative way to bring in additional revenue during the renovation period.

Vancouver

Accepted a short-term contract with Orca Design leading up to the 2010 Olympic games to take on large-format outdoor design. Lead designer on the creation of materials for BC Street and Okanagan booth (in Richmond). Contributed to large format design and installation for portions of Atlantic Canada House, Four Host First Nations pavilion, and the Acer pavilion in Whistler. Facilitated print needs and assisted in on-site install.

Worked with the executive director to manage the business and staff of a small but influential non profit focused on green building education and consulting (particularly on LEED and Built Green). Worked extensively with the City and organizations like the David Suzuki Foundation and the Natural Step to develop, write and edit go-to documents on topics such as sustainability at home, passive house design, and the Challenge Series (documenting the story of the Olympic village). Co-facilitated design charettes for the City of Tucson, Arizona. Managed budgets and fundraising in the extremely challenging post 2008 economic crash.

Toronto

The Canadian University Press is a national, member-based organization made up of student newspapers which elects its full-time staff each year. I had the honour of being elected for the organization's 70th year. For 14 months, I headed the organization, including managing the 300k budget and 22 staff from across the country, training and assisting 80+ student newspapers across Canada, recruiting the highest number of new members in a single year in the organization's history, successfully fulfilling a mandate set by the membership to expand and trial a French branch of CUP (PUC), assisting in the coordination of 6 conferences for 20 - 380 people, publishing a 300 + page book, and redeveloping the website.
