Agnes Macy Email and Phone Number
I am Aggie, a recent graduate of Bowdoin College where I majored in Environmental Studies and Anthropology. Over the years, I have found a growing interest in the ways humans interact with our environments. This has led me to look into job opportunities involving geography, anthropology, archaeology, environmental conservation, and outdoor education. In addition, I have a deep respect for history and have enjoyed working with archival records to help us understand our present. During the summer of 2023, I traveled to West Greenland for anthropology fieldwork and digitally repatriated historic photographs from the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum to local Greenland museums. For three summers, I worked as an assistant manager at a canoe outfitter in the Adirondacks helping make backcountry camping more accessible to groups. This past summer, I attended Central Wyoming College's Alpine Science Institute, where I conducted archaeology and GIS field mapping in the Wind Rivers in Wyoming. I now live and work in Lander, Wyoming as an Environmental Technician at Central Wyoming College.

Research FellowshipBowdoin College Jun 2023 - Jul 2023GreenlandThis summer I traveled to the West Coast of Greenland where I spent five weeks in four villages—Ilulissat, Qeqertarsuaq, Aasiaat, and Sisimiut—conducting anthropology research and conversing with locals. Conversations were inspired by a collection of photographs I assembled prior to the trip from The Peary MacMillan Arctic Museum’s collection; most of which were from Donald MacMillan’s 1926 Greenland expedition. I used the archival images to guide a comparative project of MacMillan’s photographs and photographs I took while standing in the same location as him. I shared the juxtaposed pictures with the communities I visited and got an outpouring of comments. In Greenland, I began to understand the importance of historic photographs in eliciting connection and conversation during my fieldwork. Recurring themes came up during conversations and I plan to examine the importance of visual archives in each village’s history in further research this academic year while working on an Honors Thesis in the department of Anthropology. -
