I possess a combination of wide-ranging technical skills with a product-focused mindset, and have been writing software for almost 20 years for personal/professional use.During that time I have built things for all major platforms (Mac, Windows, iOS/Android, Web).Professionally I am more or less platform agnostic, but personally I will always be the kid from the woods of Northern California who was introduced to programming via LOGO on the Apple IIe, followed by Hypercard on the Mac Plus. That is to say, my platforms of choice are Mac and iOS.Most recently at GTL (now ViaPath), I built an education platform for their array of white-label Android tablets. We replaced a hodge-podge of other edu-apps with one solid platform, built especially for the of a unique customer-base (inmates, and those managing the backend we built). At Sauce Labs, my mobile experience landed me on the "EmuSim" team at Sauce Labs, handling both iOS and Android. Before that, I built SMART Alec (https://smartalec.biz) for Other World Computing, which is a disk monitoring tool best described as the check-engine light for your disks. Before that, at BitTorrent I was the sole Apple developer of BitTorrent Now on iOS/tvOS and Bleep before that, using Objective-C, Swift and Cocoa.I am happiest in an environment where I get to do many different things, and get to have a large impact on the development of a product from conception to distribution. My technical talents are paired with exceptional communication abilities, which is why I have been such an asset to the product teams I have been a part of. I am that rare combination of technical ability and conversationalist able to describe complicated technology to the layman. Because of my communication skills, I have often been asked to act as liason between engineering and product or marketing, or as a technical representative to help PR or sales efforts.

Senior Software EngineerGtl Sep 2020 - Mar 2022Falls Church, Virginia, UsI built GTL Learn, an education-platform (and accompanying Android app) for the incarcerated population that GTL (now known as ViaPath) serves. With GTL Learn, I replaced three unmaintained, overlapping proprietary education services with a single stable platform.I built GTL Learn on of a modified version of an open-source education framework Kolibri -- providing all of the benefits of a mature, open-source project, namely a robust community and up-to-date documentation. Also, on the app-side, I built the Android app along with others on the Android team on a unified code-base that allowed us to quickly build other "media consumption" apps (the music player, movie viewer, etc.)I also lent my experience with Jenkins to replace a spaghetti-mess with a simple CI/CD system using GitLab, with successful builds stored in Artifactory. -
Software Engineer, Ios/Devops/AndroidSauce Labs Nov 2017 - Jan 2019Member of the EmuSim team for mobile (iOS/Android). EmuSim's wide-ranging duties are a bit hard to briefly summarize, but essentially EmuSim is a DevOps team that implements, optimizes and supports the infrastructure for on-demand Appium sessions running in Emulators and Simulators on Mac and Linux machines. Hired for my unique mix of in-depth iOS/MacOS experience combined with my DevOps experience (C.I./C.D., automation).

Software Engineer, MacosOther World Computing Oct 2016 - Aug 2017Woodstock, Illinois, UsSMART Alec (https://www.smartalec.biz/)SMART Alec is a consumer-focused disk monitoring utility that I built for OWC to use as a marketing and customer lead generation tool. The 1.0 version is available currently via the SMART Alec website, and will be available in both an app store and direct-download version. The direct-download version includes integration with a driver that provides SMART monitoring for USB and firewire devices, which otherwise do not report SMART data.Working with a designer, I wrote all of the code for the 1.0 version of SMART Alec in Objective-C, with integration of existing C++ libraries from SoftRAID, a software RAID product OWC produces.SMART Alec utilitizes both the SMART data polled from the disk, as well as proprietary rules-based disk failure predictions to provide the user with simple, actionable alerts when drive health declines or is predicted to decline. Users then have the option of interacting with OWC's support team for more help, or may purchase replacement disks for their particular machine in the event of a failure. As the sole developer, I also built out a set of shell scripts the various build products of SMART Alec (Direct Download w/ SMART driver, App Store without, Debug/Release/Testing targets).Additionally SMART Alec contains a command line utility used for scriptable access to the detection engine, and to allow for script-based testing.Testing of the GUI and the detection engine was accessible via the command line utility within SMART Alec and a set of hidden menu items in the Debug version. Quality Assurance EngineerCheck Point Software Technologies Feb 2008 - Jul 2011Redwood City, California, UsAs a Dev-QA Engineer, I am responsible for acceptance testing all new features and all new releases. This involves interviewing the development and product management team to get a complete picture of each new feature or release, from both a high level and very technical level to develop new test cases. I am primarily responsible for the ZoneAlarm line of products, which is Check Point's consumer product line.As we are a security company, my testing includes security testing (such as fuzz testing, buffer overflow attacks, service/driver replacement attacks), observing and verifying client-server communication for server-delivered content, validating the latest anti-virus and browser security components against legacy and zero day threats, as well as encryption testing, UI testing, localization validation and installer/uninstaller testing. The focus is to never release any product with a regression in any area of security, while constantly improving both the user experience and the level of security. As we work as a small team, I also oversee and run the build machines for the nightly builds, am responsible for communicating the test cases and test plan for new releases to the global QA organization in Israel and Minsk, as well as collecting the data and binaries to post every beta of releases close to their GA date. -
Competitive Analysis ConsultantCheck Point Software Technologies Nov 2007 - Feb 2008Redwood City, California, UsResponsible for setting up and maintaining a lab of eleven competitor's enterprise security products to Check Point's own Endpoint Security solution. I was responsible for configuring each server to its initial installed state on a single domain with one pre-configured client endpoint. Each server had a dedicated physical box, and the clients for all eleven servers were set up in virtual machines run on a single machine. This way, the Enterprise development team could simulate as many Endpoint connections as needed simply by cloning the client VMs. Once the lab was set up, I used Norton Ghost to create complete backups of the lab so that it could be restored in a matter of minutes. When requested, I explored and produced "tear-down" presentations to the enterprise team describing how the competitor's product worked, what limitations it had, how easy the install/deployment process was, and how it compared to our own product in these areas. -
