FellowInsite 2016 - May 2018New York, UsThe InSITE Fellowship is a highly competitive leadership development program comprised of graduate students at top universities, including Columbia, NYU, Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Georgetown, and several medical research institutions. InSITE Fellows and alumni make up a global network of entrepreneurs and leaders in technology and venture capital. Each semester, fellows are divided into multidisciplinary teams to help start-ups with some of their more pressing business challenges. This past semester I worked with Cohero Health, a company developing a smart inhaler to improve adherence to respiratory medications that has raised $11M in private funding. Our team performed a comprehensive stakeholder analysis of multiple global healthcare systems, including the United States and provided strategic recommendations on which stakeholders to target for future sales strategy. -

Summer Research FellowHoward Hughes Medical Institute Jun 2014 - Aug 2014Chevy Chase, Maryland, UsFriedman Laboratory Background: Most famous for the discovery of hormone leptin in 1994, Dr. Friedman’s lab aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms by which leptin acts in the brain, especially in the hypothalamus. They also aim to identify the neurocircuitry that governs eating behavior and appetite, especially those that integrate leptin.Selected as one out of 40 students nationwide as an HHMI Summer Fellow.Project: Brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a secreted protein that has recently been implicated in eating behavior and energy balance. To further understand its role in the brain I developed a mouse model that expresses Cre-recombinase under the control of the BDNF promoter. This mouse will be used to investigate many of the outstanding questions regarding how the BDNF neurocircuitry controls appetite and weight regulation. -
Summer InternRhythm Pharmaceuticals Inc. Jun 2013 - Aug 2013Boston, Ma, UsRhythm Pharmaceuticals is a biotechnology company developing drugs for the treatment of metabolic and GI disorders. I worked under the direction of the Chief Scientific Officer to: 1) develop a deeper understanding of the mechanism of action of the two drugs being carried through clinical trials. This was accomplished by a thorough review and re-analysis of the published literature; and by designing novel experiments for the company to pursue. (2) I created a database of known mutations to genetically define target patients for therapy. -
Research AssociateWeill Cornell Medical College Jun 2012 - May 2013New York, Ny, UsIn Dr. Paul's lab I worked to develop preventative and therapeutic treatments for Alzheimer's disease. Specifically, I co-led the research project aiming to develop a novel gene therapy strategy for Alzheimer's disease. I designed an optimized a viral vector delivery platform for the delivery of apoE2 into the central nervous system of a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. -
Student ResearcherWashington University In St. Louis Jan 2010 - May 2012St. Louis, Mo, UsIn Dr. Holtzman's lab I worked on two major projects that centered on understanding the mechanism by which the harmful amyloid-beta peptide is cleared from the brain. My work mainly focused on the increased clearance effect seen in mice that overexpress the LDLR protein and understanding the pathway (BBB mediated) by which this occurs.
