For Canada’s largest multi-sport and cultural event, I led a department of 13 staff and 200+ volunteers; developed the department's strategic plan and processes and policies to create departmental efficiencies; designed and implemented a complete marketing, communications and community relations portfolio in both Official Languages; and worked collaboratively with all levels of government, sponsors and media stakeholders while managing a budget of over $1 million. Internally, I was responsible for developing, planning, implementing and managing strategic marketing campaigns/programs that contributed to the overall business success of the organization. My team acted as a communications and marketing service agency for the departments of revenue generation, sustainability, merchandise sales, ticketing sales and sponsorship recognition, surpassing all revenue generation goals and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders. External communication responsibilities included: organizational strategy; media relations; crisis communication, issues management; app development; web, video, online content generation and social media strategy; publications; milestone events; government and First Nations relations; Official Languages and translation; brand awareness.

The successful student received a year free tuition, and free tickets / certificates to the City's best experiences and then spent the year blogging about it.A speech by John Furlong, CEO of the Vancouver Olympics, inspired me to leave UNBC and work for the 2015 Games--the first time a BC city has hosted a winter edition of the Canada Games--an event which will not return to the province within 26 years.
