Formulation: • Formulation of coatings, wood stains, adhesives, pigment dispersions, and specialty additives; • Solving surface defects, incompatibility, viscosity, and poor stability problems;• Improving water and chemical resistance, hardness and mechanical durability;Processes:• Design, optimization, simplification, and scale-up of processes for synthesis and blending; • Design of process control plans (chemical & physical testing);• Working with mixing equipment (high-speed disperser, bead mill, Hoc Mayer grinder);• Cooperation with Plant Team on scale-up efforts.Material Characterization and Chemical Analysis:• Mechanical and destructive testing of coatings, adhesives, and materials: flexibility, adhesion, hardness, scratch, abrasion, rub resistance, tensile strength (Instron, ABES); • Chemical testing: Titrations, Karl Fisher, FTIR, GPC, GC-MS;• Chemical and water resistance, QUV weathering, surface analysis (contact angle), size of emulsions and dispersions (DLS);• Maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of analytical instrumentation;• Knowledge of theory of analytical methods not only for the operation of ASTM methods but also for the design of customized test procedures (e.g., for quick screening studies, synthesis monitoring, and QC of new products).New Product / Process Development:• Practicing Lean Six Sigma principles: e.g. Voice of the Customer (VoC), prioritization, A3 problem solving, benchmarking, DMADV;• Design of experiment (DOE), statistical analysis and modelling with Minitab; • Optimizing balance between CTQs (Critical to Quality);• Support customers and Technical Service regarding new product application.Communication: • Support marketing department in commercialization of TWO new products;• Giving presentations to Sales and customers;• Preparation of technical documentation (TDS, QC procedures);• All levels of report writing, including applications for government funding.
