About Andrew Wells

My unhesitating willingness to take advantage of the opportunities presented to me shows that I am both driven to succeed and passionate about the area I have chosen. This is exemplified in my continued persistence to challenge myself in new, culturally diverse environments. This includes my decision to study abroad twice, to choose to study in a new and different academic environment at Sciences Po Paris, and to insert myself into an unfamiliar role that challenged my leadership capabilities as an Intern in Building Community at Columbia University. I seek to continue to expand my capabilities as I pursue my diverse fields of interest.I am strong with languages, able to quickly recognize patterns in data, culturally experienced and adept, able to set both short and long-term goals, and work best in active environments in which I have the ability to work with others.

Listed skills include Research, Leadership, Social Media, Conflict Analysis, and 24 others.

Conference Coordinator

Paris Area, France

At JDI, we attempt to bring Sciences Po students closer to the world of international diplomacy, mainly by engaging directly with the diplomatic community here in Paris. This engagement can range from embassy visits to informal meetings and workshops with ambassadors, diplomats, international organizations, and NGOs. As a core member of the Conference Committee for JDI's inaugural 2019 Diplomacy Today Conference, I helped plan, organize, and implement every element in order to make it a success. This completely student-run initiative required six months of preparation. The end result was a highly successful day-long interactive conference on the importance of Women in Diplomacy, including security apparatuses and mediation processes. The Conference Committee was able to secure the participation of four female ambassadors in Paris as well as numerous organizations and representations, including the U.S. Embassy in France, Nordic Women Mediators, Women in International Security France, and the General Representation of the Government of Flanders in France.

Program Assistant - Leadership Programs

Région De Paris, France

As a program assistant with the German Marshall Fund (GMF) in their Paris office, I aided in the development of the recently formed Inclusive Leadership Hub, which is dedicated to the promotion of inclusive practices among the next generation of leaders in the transatlantic space. To this end, I assisted in preparations for and the actual running of, the inaugural Inclusive Leadership Summit in September 2019 in Paris. This inaugural summit brought together nearly 80 public and private stakeholders from France, the rest of Europe, and the United States. We principally identified participants based on their positions as leaders of growing progressive and change-oriented networks dedicated to helping excluded communities. As an organizer of the event, I also had the opportunity to coordinate directly with our various partners, which included the U.S. Embassy in France, Canadian Embassy in France, Meridiam Infrastructure, and the Global Centre for Pluralism, to name but a few. The summit itself was organized as a two-day workshop in knowledge sharing and co-creation, while participants also heard directly from private and public leaders dedicated to diversity and inclusion in their own industries. I have just recently finished a detailed evaluation of the summit that I submitted to program leaders within GMF, and have already started assisting in organizational and logistical preparations for our second summit next September on “Achieving Political Inclusion.” This includes work on the development of the actual content of the summit, liaising with potential partners and funders in Paris and abroad, and ironing out logistics. I also assisted with both the planning and hosting of the American Marshall Memorial Fellows (MMFs) in Brussels and in Paris. MMFs are leading professionals in public and private fields selected by GMF to participate in a month-long exchange program in order to gain a better understanding of European politics, culture, and history.

Oct 2016 - Jun 2017

Administrative And Residential Life Assistant, Pre-College Programs

Greater New York City Area

Columbia University's Summer Program for High School Students essentially creates a globalized community for six weeks. Interns are responsible for groups of 8 to 12 high-school aged students from around the world. It is a fascinating case study in both the beauty and fierce difficulty involved in cross-cultural diffusion. As one may expect, conflicts between students inevitably arise, and it becomes our job to resolve them. After all, the official name of the position is the “Internship in Building Community.” Is building community not what those involved in conflict resolution are trying to do? We seek to encourage the students to find common ground, and promote community-based events that mitigate cultural tension while heightening understanding and highlighting similarities between them. My other accomplishments in this position include: working with team members to plan and run program-wide events for up to two-thousand students, serving as a resource for both students and parents while also maintaining detailed accounts of program-related documentation as a receptionist and assistant to the head office administrator in the High School Program office, planning, organizing, and leading cultural excursion trips in and around New York City.

Enrollment was more than 10,000 people.

Duties included working closely with course staff to ensure the smooth running of each tournament, continuous contact with team presidents to keep them informed and updated on information about the tournaments, and the scheduling of events. This position required a strong organizational capacity, as I had to be able to work in a fast-paced environment during the tournaments, be able to effectively plan each event, and work with large amounts of data.
