Design-Lab is an inter-disciplinary collaborative actively pursuing research and practice in design-focusing on architecture, graphic design and photography. Founded in 2002 by Andrew Watkins and Jeremy Munn, Design-Lab is an open structured and evolving agglomeration of talented individuals. Design-Lab is committed to the exploration of design processes valuing the dialogue between disciplines of design for comprehensive solutions to traditional and non-traditional problems. design-lab is interested in connections within and to the field of design that promote and foster theoretical dialogues with practical applications.Design-Lab believes that design should be a comprehensive practice-small-to-large, theoretical-to-real and discipline-to-discipline. By involving multiple disciplines throughout the design process and application, Design-Lab believes that productive connections can be exploited for innovative and expressive solutions to design problems.

Chan Krieger Sieniewicz is committed to city life and urban revitalization, believing that the well being of contemporary American society is much dependent on the health and prosperity of its cities and the quality of their public realm. We are a thirty-person firm in Cambridge, Massachusetts, offering a full range of design and planning services. Founded in 1984, the firm has been built on our ability to cross the disciplines of architecture, urban design and public space planning. We bring a distinctive combination of pragmatic methodology, scholarship, and civic vision to our work. We work primarily for the public, educational, and institutional sectors, particularly on projects that engage complex settings. We feel most effective when collaborating with clients on significant community or civic projects.

This practice-oriented fellowship is based on the premise that design-centered research, addressing generic building types and carried out outside normal practice constraints, is crucial to developing fresh solutions that would influence professional practice. The fellows spend one year in residence at the Boston office of Moshe Safdie and Associates, where they are able to use the office as an open forum for discussion and development, have access to resources of the office and its network of specialist consultants, as well as receive administrative and research support. The fellows work collaboratively and continuously with Moshe Safdie personally in analyzing, speculating, and developing design proposals addressing the fellowship’s chosen theme. Every year Moshe Safdie selects a general theme on which the design research will focus. The first fellowship was devoted to the study of tall buildings in the city.
