About Ahmet Hamdi Cavusoglu

I am the Program Director for the Merck Digital Sciences Studio, working closely with entrepreneurs, investors, and other stakeholders to accelerate early-stage startups at the intersection of digital and biopharma innovation. Before MDS Studio, I served as the Executive Director of the Academic Venture Exchange (AVX), where I led the coordination and operation of a premier network connecting university-based intellectual-property (IP) startups and spin-offs from preeminent research institutions in the US with advisors, cofounders, and investors. My work at the Innovation Accelerator Foundation (IAF) focused on managing partnerships with multiple technology transfer offices to identify and implement strategies to encourage collaborations with innovators. I have also served as an advisor and judge to the BioMedX Accelerator at Columbia University and the NYC Regional Innovation Node (NYCRIN) of the NSF i-Corps program. I completed my PhD in Chemical Engineering at Columbia University in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Özgür Şahin.

Critical to the success of technology transfer at Columbia University is the CTV Fellows program. In the early stages of technology transfer, Fellows complete initial assessments of the potential commercial applications of technologies invented by Columbia University faculty and review patent literature that may anticipate these technologies. In assessing these technologies, Fellows are attuned to prior art and currently marketed products that may infringe upon Columbia Patents. At later stages, Fellows draft non-confidential summaries of technologies, their applications, and their advantages for use in various CTV marketing channels, including innovation.columbia.edu. As a part of this marketing effort, Fellows identify companies that may be interested in Columbia technologies and prepare the language used to attract these companies as potential licensees.
