About Allen Hammock

I have 20 years of experience in digital advertising technology, from display advertising to paid search and mobile applications. I have a very strong technical background, working as an individual contributor to engineering efforts while also serving in a management capacity to organize and inspire product and engineering teams. While I am a technical person, I find my greatest strength is interfacing with non-technical users and bridging the gap between their problems to the ultimate solutions that meet their needs. To that end, I spend much of my time in front of business people, from top level executives down the value chain, helping to get insights into their needs and find appropriate and efficient technological solutions.

    Solutions Architect, Market Intelligence
    Skai Jan 2021 - Present
    San Francisco, Ca, Us
Now part of Skai's Marketing Intelligence Business Unit (formerly Kenshoo), my focus has shifted to understanding how algorithms, data, and advanced analytics can help give product manufacturers insights into how consumer behaviors, preferences, and purchase drivers align to what brands are claiming as features, benefits, and ingredients in their products. I'm learning all about the nuances and capabilities of natural language processing as this is critical to understanding how we can interpret the contents of hundreds of thousands of product descriptions and millions of consumer discussions to get at the elusive answer to "why". In this new role I apply my deep understanding of machine learning techniques and my 20+ years of experience in digital marketing to help customers understand how our market intelligence platform can help brands find whitespace opportunities to introduce new products to market, better position current products relative to what consumers' met and unmet needs are, and improve e-commerce returns and margins. It's an exciting new chapter in my career at Kenshoo, working with many of the same global CPG brands I am familiar with from media activation but engaging with broader cross-functional teams across R&D, brand marketing, shopper marketing and e-commerce.

  • Straylight Llc, A Division Of Learfield Communications, Inc.
    Co-Founder, Technical Director
Straylight Llc, A Division Of Learfield Communications, Inc. 1995 - 1999
Straylight LLC developed online college sports property Gamecruiser.com for major radio networking company with distribution partner AudioNet (later, Broadcast.com). Gamecruiser distributed men's and women's college sports broadcasts to a global audience of alumni and fans. Content included streaming audio for basketball, football and baseball programs. Additionally, Straylight produced web sites and distributed audio content for several major state news networks owned and operated by Learfield Communications including The Missourinet, Radio Iowa, and the Brownfield Network. As co-founder and senior technology manager for this early Internet startup, I built streaming audio services with first generation Real Audio software (then, Progressive Networks). This involved quite a bit of IT machinery to take live audio programs from the satellite feed and route it through a network of Windows NT-based systems and onto the Internet through audio streams.I also worked directly with college Atheletic Directors to build features and into web sites, programming those sites in HTML and JavaScript and tying them into the back end Microsoft SQL Server database. As we built the audience for Gamecruiser and started to work on monetization, I developed the AdActive online advertising plug-in for the NetGravity ad serving platform (which later became the DoubleClick Enterprise Ad Server). On the sales and marketing side, I worked with a major U.S. auto-maker and Detroit-based marketing firm to develop a beta program for the advertising platform. I traveled extensively to evangelize advertising software with advertising agencies in Chicago and online publishers in California (Netscape, Excite, Infoseek, Yahoo!, many more) and New York (Art.com, 24/7, others).Ultimately, the Gamecruiser properties were absorbed into Broadcast.com when it went public. Straylight shuttered its doors Seattle in 1999.
