The Tourism Centre focuses on developing quality, the business, customer experience and skills within Small to Medium Enterprises, by facilitating the development of existing and additional income streams. up-skilling the management and workforce, The Tourism Centre provides sector specific development workshops, business consultancy, action learning and coaching and mentoring interventions. Key competencies of The Tourism Centre are training, marketing development and support, business planning, facilitation of partnership and co-operative working practices and strategy development.

Utilising funding from the European Regional Development Fund, Higher Education and Innovation Funding, North West Development Agency, Single Regeneration Budget and the Northern Leadership Academy (Northern Way), regeneration and business development activities were undertaken with Small to Medium Enterprises across the North West, in the Visitor Economy, Food and Drink and Creative Industries Sectors, working in Partnership with Sector Specific Organisations, Local Authorities, Business Link and the North West Regional Development AgencyThe Centre provided Business Consultancy, One-to-One training and business advice, coaching and mentoring, training workshops and development programmes in a range of topics to develop the individual and the business.The Centre was responsible for the publication of the:‘The Blackpool Marketing Toolkit’, Alan Heywood, Tara McLaughlin, John Thedham – a guide to marketing for accommodation businesses and the visitor economy in Blackpool, funded by Blackpool Council and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). ‘The North West Marketing Toolkit’, Alan Heywood, Tara McLaughlin, John Thedham – a guide tomarketing for accommodation businesses and the visitor economy in the North West, funded by the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) and the North West Development Agency (NWDA).
