The consultancy project aims to examine and project the export and import dynamics of Pakistan through a useful forecasting model. It is motivated by the need for producing a reliable assessment of the foreign trade development of the country and allowing better forecasting of other balance of payment components as well as future planning. The assignment divided into two phases. In the first phase, the main task is to develop a comprehensive international trade forecasting model along with the manual and training material. In the second phase a CGE model will be developed to see the impact of any policy changes on key economic variables i.e., GDP, BOP, employment, inflation, and import revenue. Developing these models would require a careful matifaceted approach, considering important economic policy indicators, such as tariffs, exchange rates, and interest rates, as well as identify emerging global trends.

The key findings and recommendations of the study were as follows:1. Short to midterm recommendations include strengthening TPB and TPC capacity, regular meetings, and research.2. Initiate the stepwise process of eliminating the 5th schedule, streamlining customs procedures, and minimizing compliance costs.Medium to long term goals involve gradually reducing average tariffs, effective protection, and simplifying tariff structures.3. Focus on eliminating conditionalities in the 5th schedule and transforming maximum tariff lines for a unified import structure.

My responsibilities included working on assignments as directed by the Chairperson of the National Tariff Commission (NTC) and the Secretary Ministry of Commerce, focusing on the analysis of Pakistan's trade policies to provide valuable insights for informed decision-making. As an Associate at the Special Monitoring Unit-Chief Minister's Office in Punjab, Pakistan, My responsibilities included overseeing data collection, writing research reports and managing a team of research analysts. In this role, I spearheaded a dynamic team dedicated to the assessment of Public Sector Companies. My responsibilities encompassed a comprehensive analysis of business plans, facilitating the formulation of strategic courses of action to enhance service delivery, and ensuring financial sustainability.Furthermore, I played a pivotal role in crafting a robust reporting mechanism tailored to the unique needs of Public Sector Companies. This involved the meticulous formulation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the establishment of robust evaluation and reporting systems. Through these initiatives, I contributed significantly to the organization's ability to track and communicate the performance of public sector entities effectively.

Provided support to the Regional Trade and Policy Adviser, PREIA in conducting study on tariff rationalization on environmental goods and services proposing crucial reforms for an environmentally conscious trade policy, our analysis outlines three key recommendations:Classification System for Environmental Goods:Advocate integrating a comprehensive classification system for environmental products within the current tariff structure.Facilitates a more environmentally conscious tariff framework, enabling future assessments and modifications.Creation of New Tariff Headings:Suggests introducing new tariff lines to differentiate environmental products.Requires collaboration with authorities, trade organizations, and industry stakeholders for accurate reflection of environmental attributes.Tariff Rationalization of Environmental Products:Proposes tariff reduction on selected products with higher tariffs to incentivize adoption and affordability.Focus on electric vehicles, energy-saving equipment, environmentally friendly textiles, air pollution control, and clean water products.These recommendations aim to foster the adoption of environmental technologies, encourage innovation, and reduce environmental footprints in trade policies.

Project Title: Comparative Study of Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers in India and Pakistan. I’m addition to carrying out econometric analysis, I was mainly responsible for collecting data, designing measures of performance and inequality in education, Heath and other utilities.

During my stay at IPP I worked on various research projects for World Bank, ADB, HEC and Ministry of Finance in areas ranging from governance, cost of load-shedding, tax incidence, to regional integration and SMEs. I have also worked on annual reports on Macroeconomy which gives an independent view of how economy performed.
