About Ahmad Shawwal
I study financial economics at Columbia. As a nontraditional student, I entered the workforce soon after high school. I organized political campaigns in Virginia and lobbied for better higher education through nonprofits and the U.S. Department of Education. While working on campaigns, I developed an interest in business, and I started managing technology efforts for a construction firm. Both industries—campaigns and construction—are different but equally valuable ways of building community. My experiences have allowed me to triangulate people, resources, and technology to solve problems. I also gained the inspiration to learn more. When I'm not working or studying, I enjoy skiing, playing chess, reviewing restaurants, and travelling.
