Ahmed has over twenty (20) years of humanitarian and development experience working with communities in Kenya and Somalia, focusing on humanitarian assistance/emergency programming, public health, and community empowerment. His professional expertise is in leadership and health system strengthening, program planning, and management. He currently works as the Deputy Global Director for CORE Group Partners Project; he provides technical direction and assists in budget management, continuous program quality improvements, quality control of partners’ activities, and use of resources of the Polio, Global Health Security, COVID-19 & Ebola project. Work closely with the Secretariat staff in each country to build their technical capacity, including by serving as a key technical resource person. Guide the team to use data in the day-to-day planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. He previously worked as the Secretariat Director, CORE Group Polio, COVID-19 & GHSA project for Kenya and Somalia. He provided technical leadership to all aspects of project planning and implementation in Kenya and Somalia. He supported CGPP secretariats in South Sudan and Ethiopia for timely coordination with the WHO and UNICEF Horn of Africa (HOA) coordination office. He previously worked as the Program Director with CRS Somalia (October 2015- March 2017), and he led and managed the emergency programs in Somalia. This has enabled him to acquire high-quality programming and hands-on management skills in the development and humanitarian aid operations, particularly in the sectors of Nutrition, Health, and Livelihoods. He also worked as a Program Manager for BroadReach Healthcare LLC (USAID-funded APHIAplus IMARISHA project (from June 2012-September 2015). A Service Delivery Specialist for Management Sciences for Health (APHIAplus Northern Arid Lands project; 2011-2012, Program Officer, USAID Extending Service Delivery-APHIA II NEP project; 2008 -2010. Ahmed’s previous experience in the public sector was as Chief Nursing Officer at Garissa Provincial General Hospital from 2003-2008. Mr. Ahmed holds an MPH from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a BSc in Nursing from the University of Dundee (Scotland), and a Higher Diploma in Health System Management from Galilee College (Israel).
