As an Analyst at ADV Integrity, I use Finite Element Modelling and Analysis (FEA) to study different pipeline components as well as pipeline repair solutions to determine weak points, and assess integrity. In addition, we conduct static and fatigue analysis of pipelines under cyclic pressures or large displacements. Depending on the project, subscale or full-scale models are analyzed.Most importantly at ADV we focus on verifying the FEA results with hand calculations to develop confidence in models. When a case matrix includes multiple input variables we develop robust parametric models that can be used for multiple inputs.Lastly but most excitingly, we validate FEA results with experimental testing data when applicable. This allows us to develop more confidence in our FEA models, which can be used in multiple scenarios.
