I believe in a quote: "If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree."That is what I did when I decided to change my career from being a Civil Engineer to what I am passionate about, a software engineer.To know me as a software engineer is to know a little about my early story as a teenager. I grew up tinkering with computers, spending loads of time installing software on our family computer, and dreamed of being a software engineer. When it came time to enter university, my family did not support this dream. So, I pursued a career that was similar in its problem-solving, math requirements, and building things: Civil Engineering. I graduated from civil engineering and worked as a project control engineer for almost 5 years. Then, I felt empowered to change my career to software engineering, which I have always been passionate about. It wasn’t an easy decision, as I didn’t have a mentor to guide me at the time. However, being a good self-learner and a good planner, I started by taking serious steps toward achieving my dream. I started by learning the fundamentals of computer science through online tutorials. After that, I picked one of the most in-demand programming languages in our market, which I figured out by doing some research through job websites. In the end, I succeeded in getting my first job as a back-end developer 2 years ago.In the future, I hope I can help many people who are seeking to make a transition to software development, but first I want to BE a world-class software engineer.
