I currently teach first grade students all subject areas. My classroom consists of LEP- Limited English Proficiency and native English Speakers. Some of the students are one to two years below grade level. The emphasis in first grade is to ensure that the students acquire a solid phonemic awareness, phonics, and decoding skills. It is also important to consistently work on increasing sight word knowledge, fluency and vocabulary. In addition, the students learned foundational mathematical skills along with science and social studies.

During my employment at at this school, I taught third grade student all subject areas. In addition, I team taught first and second grade students reading . In both of these positions, the demographics I served included ESOL (Exceptional Student of Other Languages), ESE (Exceptional Students Education), students at grade level, and some students with yet undiagnosed reading disorders, learning disability or those needing extra time to understand the written text. This population was struggling with decoding, phonics, fluency, and reading comprehension. All students deserve the time and patience of a teacher to help them overcome some of the obstacles while they learn to fall in love with reading!
