I have considerable experience of managing and submitting planning applications for renewable energy projects in both N. Ireland and the Rep. Of Ireland. Currently, my role involves securing all planning consents for Lightsource bp across Ireland (NI and RoI). This involves assessing sites, managing risks, project managing consultants, preparing planning applications and several post construction duties. I have also experience in Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) projects with a number of 110kv substation applications and have managed the preparation of an Environmental Impact Assessments for one of our solar farms. My direct experience of the EIA process started in a consultancy role with WDR & RT Taggart (2006-2007). My position as Senior Town Planner meant I directly managed a portfolio of planning applications for a selection of our clients (including SSE Airtricity, Hibernian Windpower). The windfarms I worked on included Bessy Bell II (K/2003/0626F), Curryfree (A/2004/1243/F) Crockagarran (K/2005/0537/F) and Slieve Kirk (A/2004/1130/K). My role was to manage the planning and EIA process, provide the required further environmental information and to ensure compliance with the EIA regulations regarding community consultation and public advertisement of relevant EIA addendums and further information. This process involved seeking quotes or tenders from multiple environmental consultants, appointing the consultants in a timely manner, editing all environmental reports, transposing the reports into an EIA document and ensuring the quality and robustness of all submissions. Once submitted my role was to manage the planning process with regular contact with Planning Service developing sound working relationships, attend meetings as required and incrementally move the planning application process towards a decision. In all instances various deadlines set by the client were achieved.Other experience gained more recently within my career directly relating to the EIA process has been on solar projects in the Rep. Of Ireland. In 2018/19, I project managed a planning application submitted to Meath County Council for a solar farm that was accompanied with and EIA (Planning Reference: TA181225). Naturally, a team of environmental consultants provide the professional expertise and environmental reports as required under the legislation.

Community Services ManagerCastlereagh Borough Council Aug 2011 - Mar 2015Working with local community groups, engaging incommunityy consultation and preparing stakeholders for major local government transition that occurred with the new local authoity boundary changes. I managed 14 staff and had responsibility for a budget of approximately £400k. -
Planning ManagerTaggart Holdings Ltd Oct 2007 - Jun 2011BelfastAt that time the Taggart Holdings company was one of the largest property development companies in Ireland. As Planning Manager I was responsible for the overall management of the Taggart Group’s land planning portfolio, which consists of up to 30 current planning applications for 2000 plus housing units, on c.250 acres of land across N. Ireland and about 100 acres in the Republic. Having worked extensively as a planner previously in both jurisdictions (see below), I was able to bring my knowledge and experience to the company which operated on an all island basis. The post involved identifying & assessing sites in both NI and ROI, negotiating with land owners, agreeing prices, assisting in the due diligence procedure (in relation to planning matters) and project managing the planning process from start to finish. This would include appointment of all consultants such as architects, engineers, archaeologists etc and project managing the planning process. Ensuring that planning was obtained as quickly as possible was essential considering the monthly interest payments on the land portfolio. Unfortunately, with the global downturn in the property market the company went into administration in November 2008 and was formally run down as a trading entity the following January, with the loss of over 100 jobs. I was retained by the Directors (see below).I was retained by the owner of the company to work for Tailored Homes Ltd and Oakleaf Healthcare Ltd, focusing on house building and healthcare respectively. I was appointed as the Planning Manager for both and tasked with managing the land portfolio in both companies. The role involved also finding new sites and acquiring planning permission across N. Ireland and the ROI. This post required a commercial awareness and ability to represent the organisation at all levels, work to a budget and show value for money to the Directors.
