About Aidan Meyer-Golden
My goal is to ask questions about human perception and use scientific methods to explore the laws which govern human experience. I seek an opportunity to engage with human perception at a deeper level. In the long term, I also plan to engage in research in neurolinguistics, specifically in second language acquisition, and neuromusicology. I am also interested in exploring the effects of Buddhist meditation on the brain.I completed a BS in Mathematics and a BA in Philosophy, which equips me with a strong scientific literacy. I have studied Mandarin for nearly a decade, and have done work as an interpreter. I am also a writer and musician. These varied sets of competencies give me a unique perspective on human experience. I intend to explore the neural changes that occur in long-term music practice and second language acquisition. As an undergraduate, during a period as a visiting researcher at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy, I worked on a philosophy thesis paper which explores the relationship between mathematics and phenomenology, exploring the philosophical implications of numerosity perception, specifically in response to works by Heidegger and Kant. I mention this to highlight my ability to decipher and respond meaningfully to complex texts and also thrive in novel environments.
