As a graduate research assistant for West Virginia Universities Prevention Research Center my main duties were enveloped by two main focus points: data management and project coordination. Within the data management focus, I ensured data was inputted by county LEA’s into REDCap in a timely manner, and then I transcribed the data from REDCap into excel. The excel file was used to present all data through a Tableau dashboard, and I used the excel file to generate monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports. I also worked to develop a manuscript analyzing the presence of therapy dogs on Tier1/Tier 2/Tier 3 advancement within the participating k-12 schools, and the therapy dogs impact on attendance, disciplinary actions, and other key data points. For project coordination, I helped organize conferences, ensured project deadlines were met, and assisted in applicant searches. I also synthesized feedback from conferences, and distributed the feedback amongst AWARE team members. I also developed a map utilizing ARCGis illustrating drive-time from relevant schools to SAMSHA approved mental health clinics.

As a This is Public Health ambassador (TIPH) for the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health, I gained invaluable leadership at the national level. I also developed a learning curriculum to be presented to West Virginia State 4-H members that tied their organization to the mission of public health. I also attended and spoke at TIPH meetings regarding a large array of topics, in the hopes of furthering public health conversations,

In my tenure as a Regular Fellow at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, I assisted in evaluating effectiveness of dental evacuation systems, by utilizing size selective samplers to evaluate respirable (PM4 ) and thoracic (PM10 ) aerosol concentrations. I also utilized particle sizing instruments to measure particle size distribution and particle number concentrations during the dental procedures. The data gathered will contribute towards the understanding of engineering controls used to mitigate aerosol exposures in dental clinic settings. I also assisted on a systematic literature review of exposure assessments in dental settings. This focused on both infectious and non-infectious respiratory hazards in dental settings. This information was then gathered and applied towards the development of a work history questionnaire for dental personnel that will be utilized for planned future epidemiologic studies of dental personnel.

As a research assistant with the West Virginia University Occupational and Environmental Health Department my main duty was to assist and perform with in vivo experimentation on the effects of cardiovascular toxicity of water sampled from Marcellus Shale run off sites. I was also tasked with mixing and maintaining the solutions required to perform the procedures, and properly sanitizing the laboratory before and after the procedure. I was also tasked with analyzing the data, and I accomplished this through the ImageJ software system.

In this role, I worked to develop a request for proposal for the organization to host the “Health Games,” a multi-community contest to see which community could develop the best plan to promote a healthier community. I also compiled a listing of all businesses that could be beneficial to include in the plans. This business followed the “Mind, Move, and Eat” mantra of the games. I promoted the event through social media content, and I collaborated with outside companies to see the amount of traction the health games were receiving. I generated weekly reports of COVID-19 infection rates, and I ensured that all events would be within local, state, and federal COVID-19 guidelines.

Whilst employed with the West Virginia Department of Health in Human Resources as a Vector Surveillance Intern, I was tasked with the responsibility of creating a farm of locally caught mosquitoes to test local population resistances and immunity to different pesticides. I also captured and identified mosquitoes within Monongalia County, and I ensured proper documentation of information regarding trap location, types of mosquitoes caught, and trap used. I then would prepare this information into a Geographic Information System, and I would send this report to the State Entomologist, WVDHHR, and Monongalia County Health Department. involved, and prepared the data to be entered into GIS.

As an Intern at the Monongalia County Health Department, I performed a plethora of responsibilities. One such responsibility was utilizing survey data from a community health needs assessment to determine what services, programs, and initiatives the community would like to see the health department provide, and I used these findings to assist in the department's accreditation process. I assisted in grant writing activities, and I developed a survey that was used to foster a better environment for future student interns.. I also helped establish the county's Opioid Quick Response Team, which is a multi-agency collaboration to get peer recovery coaches to individuals who had recently overdosed. This program received an award from a U.S. Attorney for outstanding community drug prevention. I assisted the regional epidemiologist in a pertussis case through contact tracing efforts, and by helping to prepare a statement to the press regarding the situation, My final responsibility was helping to organize a threat/emergency preparedness drill that involved multiple local, state, and federal agencies. This drill focused on rescuing stranded individuals on West Virginia Universities Personal Rapid Transportation System and response to an active shooter.
