In my 3 years in the Land Assembly team within Planning, Development and Regeneration, I undertook a wide range of work, providing advice to private developer and local authority clients. My experience included:- strategic site assembly and compulsory purchase advice- preparation of Property Cost Estimates- viability appraisals for a variety of purposes- valuation, including 'Red Book' valuations- management and execution of the CPO process- negotiations of compensation for the acquiring authority and for claimants- preparation for public inquiry- acquisition and disposal of commercial and residential properties - providing advice on the use of s203 powers and other third party rights

Clifton Property Services was an estate agency I worked at throughout my final year at university, carrying out viewings and negotiations. My role also involved assisting in other odd jobs such as chasing up overdue rent payments and undertaking inspections. The job provided me with a good insight into the Bristol property market and the importance of connections with Landlords and other agents. It also provided me with valuable experience dealing with clients, and managing my time as well as high street estate agency operations. After my exams I took on more hours and was given greater responsibility.

o After an initial induction I was responsible for covering vacation absence. This involved taking charge of all operational aspects of the Hatat Complex; a mixed-use development in central Muscat containing 189, two and three bedroom apartments, 110,000 sq ft commercial space and 50,000 sq ft retail space. o My role included the day-to-day running of the complex, but I was also able to let 12 apartments, and aided the head of commercial agency in letting commercial and retail space within the complex. o I successfully developed a plan, obtaining quotes and constructing a detailed report for a gym proposal within the complex.o In addition I was lucky enough to gain an insight and assist in many other aspects of Cluttons in Oman, including their valuations, feasibility reports, commercial agency and the industrial sector. o As well as drafting letters of intent for leases, I accompanied Cluttons staff on numerous site visits, such as assessing appropriate plots of land in Oman’s ‘interior’ for telephone masts.I feel I was very fortunate to have been given a lot more responsibility and gained far greater experience compared to many equivalent summer placement schemes on offer in the UK and I particularly enjoyed being able to compare the differences between Omani and UK property markets.
