About Aidan Hurley
I am an architect with a particular interest in the creation of better people oriented spaces and places in our cities. My current role primarily sees me focused on the creation of new homes, spaces and places in the London Borough of Islington.Prior to joining Islington Architects, I worked with two other Islington based practices over a period of 12 years. At Benson + Forsyth I had the opportunity to work closely with the partners for several years, including on a number of landmark residential projects in London. Subsequently at Avanti Architects I took on a more leading role on the conceptual and strategic design of schemes, before going on to successfully take education and residential projects through the realization stages. In advance of my time with Benson + Forsyth, I worked with the acclaimed Irish firm of Murray O’Laoire Architects where I was afforded the opportunity to both assist and lead on a number of projects, with the realised one winning a RIAI best building award.I studied architecture at the design-orientated Mackintosh School of Architecture. In Glasgow, I developed a thoughtful and expressive architecture, which aimed to create inspiring and thought provoking arrangements of spaces and places for the people of the city. This was an extensive period of research, learning and critical thinking for me, and I received the best-in-year design/portfolio award in my time at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, as well as at Cork Institute of Technology where I had previously studied architectural technology.I value the ideas and strategies which can underlie projects, unlock the potential of their sites, and which have the capability to order their programs into enriching forms for the end users. I like to believe it is possible to breathe life into any project, and I am always keen to evolve and widen thinking on architecture and the city.
