About Aidan Looby

👋 My name is Aidan Looby, a graduate student at the University of Houston. My PI is Professor Brad Carrow and we work on the development of Pd oxidative addition complexes for cross-coupling catalysis as well as Fe-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions.🎙 I am the host of The SW Podcast with Synthesis Workshop, which brings high-level research in chemistry to a general audience in an accessible and digestible way, while also shining light on the HUMAN aspect of science.Feel free to send me a message if you would like to connect!

    During the summer of 2019, Sebastian Cuka and I worked on the green synthesis of a maleimide derivative. We used a 3-step synthesis to create our final product. Our results were successful; we were able to create the maleimide derivative, however we unexpectedly made isomers of the final product. The future of this project will trying to control the exo and endo product.Some lab techniques I learned along the way are H-NMR (proton nuclear magnetic resonance) , C-NMR (carbon nuclear magnetic resonance), melting point, thin layer chromatography, and recrystallization.
