Hello! I am a first-year Master’s student in Dr. Eric H. Roalson’s lab at Washington State University. My thesis is focused on bryophyte systematics. I will conduct a floristics study in western Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest. With preliminary occurrence data from the Consortium of North American Bryophyte Herbaria and my own collection data, I will analyze the bryophyte biodiversity of the state. I hope to improve conservation management efforts for bryophytes in Washington by generating a checklist for the state. Without sufficient occurrence data for bryophyte species, conservation planning overlooks native and at-risk non-vascular plants. My thesis research aligns with my own personal goals of gaining fieldwork experience and improving my bryophyte identification skills.I hope to continue bryophyte taxonomy/systematics research as a PhD student after graduating with my Master’s in the spring of 2024.
