Aila McPhail is a Co-Founder of WEquil.App … an education technology platform for learning by doing real things. Users build a portfolio of real world accomplishments tailored to their unique strengths, interests and learning objectives. WEquil.App employs a project based approach that turns learning into creations such as a story on Kindle, art collections on Patreon, product sales on Etsy or eBay, essays on Medium, scalable classes on YouTube, podcasts on Spotify, apps on app stores, social clubs, companies or non-profits. Parents can personalize their child’s education through virtual learning pods to facilitate group social and educational communities tailored to their particular needs, interests, geographic location, learning style, age range, and values when applicable. Over time students build digital resumes from a portfolio of hundreds of projects that can be repurposed to help create virtual classes they teach. Students can showcase their best projects in a new profile format that can serve as marketing to help them enter top higher education and access better employment opportunities. Students may earn income teaching classes and selling products through the app as well as through integrated platforms such as before mentioned YouTube, Medium, Patreon, EBay, Spotify.

Aila McPhail is the CEO of WEquil.School. When the pandemic hit, she and her older sister Sumay, left public school to start a virtual plus local learning community. Students pay $60 a week to enroll and are placed in personalized learning pods based on matching information provided by parents. On Monday, students begin working toward a project of their choosing to present to parents and peers in their learning pod on Friday. Professional coaching is provided along the way to facilitate project ideas, writing, video editing and public speaking. Students also receive discounts on classes taught through WEquil.App. Certifications are earned by using knowledge gained in class to create projects demonstrating competence in mastering learning objectives. Students are encouraged to use their projects to create and teach classes, lead clubs, create businesses, and grow passive income through platforms integrated into WEquil.App.

Makeshift Homeschool was created during the pandemic lockdowns to support student learning. Students taught each other and themselves using online tools and local learning opportunities such as field trips. In January of 2021, Makeshift Homeschool was re-branded to WEquil.School which runs today on WEquil.App.
