As an ESG Research Analyst, Mining I conduct analytical environmental, social, and governance (ESG) research and assessment of mining companies covered within the Sustainalytics Universe. This ESG research is used in company profiles, controversy and events, and ESG Risk Rating assessments.• Evaluate environmental, social, and governance public disclosure of mining companies, and appropriately score mining companies' preparedness, programs, performances, and best practices via Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Rating.• Compose and edit written summaries of mining company ESG Risk Rating overviews and critical issues (“Analyst Views”), by highlighting key management best practices of mining-specific material issues such as tailings and waste, occupational health and safety, and community relations.• Engage with clients and issuers to clarify a number of topics related to a company's ESG Risk Rating score, such as which best practices are considered, and how disclosure impacts score changes.• Participate in content and research consistency meetings with analysts from all sectors to align analysts’ approaches to conducting research and making assessments in the ESG Risk Rating.• Remain current with the evolving ESG landscape, including reporting frameworks and standards, such as GRI, TCFD, and CDP.• Compose internal weekly newsletters, summarizing news topics related to ESG overall, controversies and incidents tied to mining companies, and updates on hot topics in the mining industry (deep sea mining, riverine and deep sea tailings placement, EU carbon border tariff adjustments).

As an ESG communications and strategy intern (May 2020-August 2020; January 2021-May 2021) within the Security, Sustainability & Environment department I worked on a number of projects including: • Crafted two original company-wide policies (Biodiversity and Social Performance) by assessing peer key messaging, industry association principles, and primary governing body frameworks.• Completed the 2020 CDP Forests report over a 4-month time period: collaborated with global environmental and community relations site teams to gather data, conducted internal research, selected data for inclusion, and crafted qualitative and quantitative responses.• Composed 10 case studies for submission to the World Gold Council’s Gold Mining’s Contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2020 report, two of which were included in the final published report.• Completed response to Sustainalytics ESG Risk Report: supplied links and relevant statistics/data related to ESG topics such as occupational health and safety; labour rights; emissions, effluents and waste; land use and biodiversity; governance• Drafted Centerra Gold’s first internal, employee-facing ESG Handbook: conducted industry and association research ESG benefits, crafted key messages and copy to align with Centerra’s internal corporate ESG strategy, and wrote concise, clear content to communicate employee responsibilities.• Responsible for the strategic editing, customization, and proofreading of a company-wide, 10-module, human rights training program, including mining-relevant topics such as land rights; economic, social, and cultural rights; labour rights; access to a healthy environment
