After a rewarding 20 years of service in the Hospitality Industry, particularly Hotel Management, Ailsa found herself at a crossroad in her life and with an opportunity to follow her passion for food and cooking. What started at an early age in her grandmother’s kitchen (a Nutritionist by trade) in Denver CO, turned into a desire to entertain and inspire people through food. Cooking up an infusion of southern classics mixed with Western regional cuisine, she found herself learning and creating savory masterpieces that she has prepared and served to many over the years with pride and enjoyment. Ailsa also learned to embrace “farm to table” before it was a slogan. She contributes her interest to growing fresh fruits, vegetables, and raising farm animals to her late grandfather. With a chicken coop, a yard that was converted into a full garden, and access to fresh pigs and cattle, he raised his family of seven children and later to come 10 grandchildren. Meals in the household brought the family together for communion and was a time for togetherness.With a desire to improve her craft, Ailsa enrolled in the Culinary Arts Program at Atlanta Technical College where she will receive her Associate Degree in June 2021. It was important to her to understand the different techniques required to producing not only meals that taste good, but healthy well-balanced meals that taste good. The school experience has served her well and added value to her foundation for aspiring to become an entrepreneur. Along her new career endeavor, Ailsa plans to open her own catering company to evolve over time and become a bed and breakfast. Utilizing newly found knowledge and the valuable skills that she acquired early on, Ailsa plans to take food and entertaining back to a time when there was meaning, food was healthier and helped to bring families and communities together.
