I am a power plant operator at Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station. I recently graduated from the Power Engineering program at the New Brunswick Community College in Saint John. I finished with Honours and the Highest Academic Standing in a Program with at 4.2 GPA. I have my 3rd Class Power Engineering license.I’ve completed two Power Engineering Co-op work terms. 4 months at Point Lepreau and 6 weeks at Coleson Cove. During these work terms, I was able to adapt to the NB Power guidelines and learn about a nuclear power plant as well as a conventional power plant.In the Power Lab at NBCC, I have been successful in monitoring and ensuring levels, temperatures and pressures on all equipment are adequate for proper operation and boiler efficiency. I’ve learned the basics of pipe fitting, soldering copper, making gaskets and creating work permits to accomplish light maintenance on equipment. I have also completed the WHMIS course and am mindful towards maintaining safe work environment as well. During my experience in the restaurant industry, I was promoted to a manager position with Boston Pizza and with Grannan’s Hospitality Group. I was responsible for managing up to 12 employees during a shift, training new staff members, scheduling staff and time off requests, budgeting food costs and balancing tills. The variety of management tasks I’ve completed have led me to develop great leadership, organization and communication skills.
