The Student Rescue Project, Inc. is a 501(c3) charitable organization that I founded and have directed since 2016. Our mission is to provide hands-on experiences in dog rescue to students ranging from middle school through college. We accomplish this through local volunteerism (dog transport, fostering) as well as service-learning trips to locations where dog abandonment and neglect are rampant. This venture helpedallowed me to channel my passion for animal welfare, shared with my children, and while demonstrating that anyone, regardless of age, wealth or geographic location, has the power to make a difference on a global scale. Our organization keeps a steady flow of dog imports, similar to a more traditional rescue organization, in order to provide opportunities for students when travel trips are not an option. As Executive Director, I oversee all rescue operations, planning and execution of trips, budget management, and management of volunteers.

As a self-employed Certified Personal Trainer, I developed and fostered individual clients and taught small group classes on-site at client’s homes or workplaces. As the sole proprietor, I was responsible for identifying key clients and keeping them engaged in their quest for a strong and healthy life while also maximizing my income potential and continuing education. This decade-long endeavor was key to allow me to stay flexible to my family’s schedule during a key period of parenting. Personal training played to my strengths in athletics and living an active lifestyle. Class types ranged from yoga to boot camps as well as injury rehab. I designed workouts and nutritional plans tailored to each client’s goals.

As a key team member at Redstart Forestry, I oversaw a range of projects from stand analysis at the Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Park to creating an optimized model for routing wood materials from source to mill. Project highlights include a GIS-based map and database to show predicted migration routes of adolescent wood frogs from their provenance to new vernal pool or pond habitat. Redstart Forestry is a forestry and resource management consulting firm dedicated to cutting edge natural resource analysis and sustainable solutions.

Flagstaff, Arizona, United States

I launched Canyon Conservation Technologies (CCT) as a startup in 2000 focused on conservation GIS on The Colorado Plateau. Clients ranged from the USFS Southwest Research Station and local Forest Service districts to regional conservation non-profits. CCT was responsible for acquiring and maintaining a full ESRI ArcInfo License, bidding and contract design, all GIS analyses and producing final deliverables for clients. Project highlights include analyses of escarpments and other land barriers for wide-ranging wildlife species on a one-million-acre study area, resource mapping for the Coconino National Forest, and a flow model of the Colorado River below Glen Canyon Dam for the Glen Canyon Institute.

Flagstaff, Arizona, United States

As the first GIS specialist at the Grand Canyon Trust, I oversaw design and buildout of their spatial database and analysis protocols from scratch. This involved collaborating with all department managers to determine their needs, procurement of workstations and an update of licensing, creating uniform data and metadata standards and advising on equipment purchases. As an analyst, I collaborated with other scientists to design models to support their research. My capstone project with this organization was creating a detailed raster model of the Grand Canyon region from 3,000’-13,000’ in elevation with attributes such as aspect, precipitation, forest type and presence/absence of endangered flora and fauna. This model served as a foundation for science in the regional conservation community for years to come.

Portland, Oregon Metropolitan Area

The Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program of the Forest Service surveys private and leased forest lands at permanent plots every 10-years across the region of the Pacific Northwest, including Alaska. As a field technician, I was assigned to analyze aerial photos in order to navigate to each plot center and then inventory stand characteristics in the field, including stand structure, overstory species distribution, understory tree, shrub and herbaceous plant composition, along with commercial/ecological metrics including height and diameter at breast height (DBH). Associated tasks included mapping stand arrangement and estimating stand basal area and crown cover. Our field crew was among the first to use GPS to accurately record plot center locations. For stands clearcut since prior inventory, estimated former stand metrics from stump measurements and ecological context using allomeric models to characterize the clearcut disturbance.

Fort Collins, Colorado, United States

As a GIS technician for the Colorado Division of Wildlife, I automated hydrographic mapping data for the entire state of Colorado from prior USGS hardcopy 1:25,000 scale data. The resulting GIS database served as the foundation for modeling fluvial events and movement of wildlife species.
