The award-winning exhibition, 'Coal Generation: Queens, Teens and Life Outside the Mines', was opened on the 3rd of July by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.My contribution to the exhibition includes:- Coming up with the initial theme idea for the exhibition, consulting the panel and writing up the exhibition's proposal.- I was involved in the research of the photography collections, shortlisting images within our theme of youth culture in mining communities.- I contributed to the naming of the exhibition, it was my suggestion of "Queen's, Teens and Life Outside the Mines" that was selected as the official name.- I attended the Year of Young People event at Holyrood Palace, where I represented the Youth Panel alongside another Panel member. At this event, we networked with young people from nine other groups and presented our aims and objectives to HRH Prince Harry, HRH the Duchess of Sussex and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who I latterly invited to the exhibition opening.- I was responsible for the 1960s section of the exhibition. I came up with the floor plan of our section, the layout of photographs and objects, exhibition setup, the labelling of objects & introduction panel. - I promoted the exhibition via Twitter.I attended skills development training sessions run by the museum, designed to develop key skills and knowledge for working in the sector. My role is management based, however, using the experience and skills developed during my time as acting president and completing the Edinburgh Award I am also involved in marketing, supporting each committee member individually and going above the expectations set by the role.Achievements in the role:-Society nominated and shortlisted for Creative Society of The Year 2017: out of 260+ societies at the University of Edinburgh, University of Edinburgh Photography Society was one of the 4 societies to be shortlisted for this award.-New cameras and darkroom equipment: assisted in applying for grants to fund new equipment, attended meetings in order to secure and seek feedback on the application. Over £1,500 in funding secured in 2016/17.-New darkroom: consistently attended meetings and appealed to Sabbaticals and university staff to bring back our darkroom after it was scrapped. I successfully secured a new darkroom which our equipment manager and I designed.-Largest ever exhibitions: We saw a significant increase in our semesterly exhibition attendance from an average of 50 to 150 due to increased online advertising. I was involved in the decision-making and management of the exhibition in the lead up to the day, managing budgets and the setup. I ran 6 exhibitions in total.-Increase in workshop attendance: using feedback on what members liked to shape workshops, we saw an overall increase in attendance.-Planned & executed successful social events: I planned a city-wide Scavanger Hunt with a photography element as a Welcome Week event with high attendance. I secured a society sponsorship from a local pub which allowed us to hold socials such as our Christmas dinner. I also planned and executed a successful pub quiz night. Show less
