Expanding therapeutic indications for lead clinical assets  Platform development and next-generation drug candidates  Discovery and development of novel drug candidatesLeads the discovery and preclinical development of microRNA therapeutics programs. Responsible for all aspects of preclinical research with a focus on rapidly and efficiently advancing drug candidates from discovery to the clinic. Leads Discovery Biology, Discovery Chemistry, and Bioinformatics. Responsible for all aspects of preclinical research including target validation, mechanism of action, preclinical pharmacology, pharmacodynamic biomarker signatures, PK/PD, and lead compound selection. Responsible for research strategy and cross-organization coordination to execute on corporate strategy. Accomplishments include:• Lead 3 programs from initial concept to IND and First-in-Human clinical trials in less than 5 years. Two programs advanced to Ph2; third program anticipated to advance to Ph2 in 2H2019.• Identified clinical/development candidates in multiple therapeutic areas (Oncology, Fibrosis, Revascularization, Autoimmunity); leads research programs in these plus additional therapeutic areas including Immuno-Oncology, Neurodegeneration and Ophthalmology • Directs a team of >20 scientists, including Biology, Chemistry, and Informatics. Successfully consolidated these functional areas into a single integrated, high-functioning team to enhance efficiency• Identified translational pharmacodynamic biomarkers to establish mechanistic proof-of-concept in Phase 1 clinical trials• Contributed to successful IND and CTA preparation• Contributed to clinical trial design and protocol development• Secured external grant funding to support exploratory projects

Expanded role to establish and supervise a matrixed team to characterize and improve delivery of oligonucleotide drugs (anti-miRs and microRNA mimics) across multiple therapeutic areas (Oncology, Immunology, Fibrosis).
