About Aimee Matsumura Mcaffee

In my research, I study the erasure and stereotypes of Asian/American women in mediated representations. In my doctoral program at the School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC) at the University of Oregon, I am continuing my work to raise awareness of the harms correlated with mediated representations in TV and film that perpetuate problematic caricatures that fetishize, hypersexualize, and dehumanize Asian/American women into objects of desire. This reductive process from person to object may lead to violence against Asian/American women. In this era of anti-Asian violence, when Asian/American women are 2.2 times more likely than Asian/American men to become victims of hate crimes, disrupting problematic mediated representations is of the utmost concern.
