About Aimi Azman
I completed my postgraduate degrees at the University of Science Malaysia (USM) and the University of Glasgow. In Glasgow, I had the opportunity to enrol in the Environment and Sustainability Development (MSc) programme. In this programme, I learned about environmental valuation, cost-benefit analysis, market and policy failure and the economics of pollution control and climate change. This gave me the necessary tools to apply economic analysis to environmental problems, as reflected in my dissertation. Besides the MSc, I also have an undergraduate degree in Accounting from MMU Cyberjaya and an MBA from USM, where business operations and management were the main focus of the programmes.My genuine interest in the environment and sustainable development is demonstrated by my dissertation. In this paper, I examined the impact of climate change on Malaysian tourism. I hypothesised that developing countries, including Malaysia, are vulnerable to climate change. Countries located in warmer regions are more likely to suffer from global warming while countries in colder regions are expected to gain from the temperature increase. To measure the impact of climate change on tourism, I carry out quantitative research using ordinary least square (OLS) regression. I found that climate is a statistically significant determinant of tourist arrivals to Malaysia.Before commencing my graduate studies, I worked at firms and private companies. In the course of my duties, I learned to be disciplined and professional in every sense of the word. I learn to engage and communicate with clients effectively and develop a solid ethical base, carrying my duties with integrity, dedication and responsibility. Upon returning from Glasgow, I worked as a Research Assistant at USM upon returning to Malaysia. Under the supervision of Dr Dayana Jalaludin, I worked on a project related to sustainability reporting and the use of impression management in corporate reporting. I used this opportunity to improve my literature review writing and data collection skills. At the Asia School of Business, I developed an ESG regulation database and market entry handbook for ESG or Responsible Investment in ASEAN. For this project, I travelled to ASEAN countries to talk to regulators, financial intermediaries, issuers and other stakeholders. The market entry handbook was published and launched in Seoul, South Korea.
