Profile bio

About Aimée Magowan

I am a Group Leader/House Coordinator in supported living services for adults with intellectual disabilities. I have 4 years experience supporting adults with intellectual disabilities from young adults to elderly individuals and 3 years experience in supervisory and managerial roles. I am passionate about holistic, person centred care for the most vulnerable within society. I have had the opportunity to undertake Positive Behavioural Support Coaches training which has enabled me to advocate for the individuals in my care more effectively while also enhancing my staff teams' practice and individual growth. I have also attended the OAZA Joyful Leadership training, which has developed my management skills and given me the tools to run my team with compassion and strong leadership. I am dedicated to ensuring that each individual within my team feels supported and has the opportunity to learn new skills within their role. I take an anthroposophical outlook to my work and leadership style, therefore I prioritise creating a work and living environment which is open to new ideas and where each individual is celebrated for their contributions. Throughout my university education I focused on social policies which impacted those with intellectual disabilities within Northern Ireland. My dissertation focused on the challenges facing support services in Northern Ireland within the context of deinstitutionalisation and reintegration of individuals to the wider community. I am currently studying for my Masters in Social Policy and am interested in research surrounding improving support for individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families. Working for an organisation with a rich anthroposophical history has provided me with the opportunity to see first hand the positive impact that respecting and nurturing those we support's spiritual expression can have on their overall wellbeing. This sparked my decision to pursue my level 1 in Reiki healing as I have began to develop an interest in how we can alternative therapies safely alongside traditional therapies.
