In collaboration with Melbourne Genomics Health Alliance, I am in charge of the somatic variant curation training program which comes in 2 parts:1) A cross-training program for medical scientists to upskill and equip themselves with somatic curation skills. This program is a secondment with an EFT of 1.0 (10 weeks) or EFT 0.6 (16 weeks)2) Design and run workshops aimed at health professionals to gain a basic understanding of cancer curation. To date, over 100 medical scientists, oncologists, haematologists and pathologists across Australia have attended these workshops.At Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, I am a variant curator for our largest solid tumours panel (386 genes, hybridisation-capture) reporting for both somatic and germline sequenced variants, copy number, structural variants and mutational signatures. I am proficient in various publicly available databases and am able to critically assess the biological and clinical relevance of a variant for either ACMG or AMP classifications.Finally, I am heavily involved in improving our curation tools, which requires liaising with our bioinformaticians and software developers as well as having an understanding of our various clinical pipelines and curation tools.
