Research Scientist, Molecular Bioeffects, Human Performance Wing, Air Force Research LabsUnited States Air Force 2011 - 2013Wright-Patterson Afb, OhAs the lead chemist in the toxicology group, developed a new $30K nanochemistry lab and provided training on all new equipment. Managed 2 undergraduate and 1 graduate students’ research projects. Responsible for $400K of computer equipment. Technical skills: synthesis and functionalization nanoparticles, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, zeta potential measurements, and transmission electron microscopy -
Graduate StudentTexas A&M University 2009 - 2011College Station, TxStudied the covalent layer-by-layer assembly of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide). Applied the synthetic assembly process to glass surfaces and to porous glass frits. Showed that the responsive nanocomposite grafts on such frits exhibit ‘smart’ responsive permeability with a greater than 1000-fold difference in permeability to water versus aqueous solutions of sodium sulfate. Technical skills: monomer and polymer synthesis, functionalization of silica, titrations, covalent layer-by-layer synthesis, NMR spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, contact angle measurements and particle counting.
