Project Starfish is a non-profit organization who collaborates with Indian health care workers to provide sustainable medical care, with a focus on diabetes screening and treatment in rural southern India. My role involved collaborating with physicians to develop a screening form and questionnaire for type 2 diabetes to be utilized during medical mission trips. I created electronic databases using Access for the screening form and questionnaires and analyzed preliminary data on the prevalence of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, obesity and possible risk factors for chronic disease. Lastly, prepared research reports on type 2 diabetes, hypertension and obesity affecting this rural community.

Department of Social and Preventive MedicineConducted a literature review and analyzed data on the risk factors which contribute to substance abuse and schizophrenia in Malaysia, regionally and internationally. Analyzed data on the prevalence and risk factors associated with substance use among patients living with schizophrenia using the national mental health registry in Malaysia. Co-authored a manuscript and abstract.
