Hi there! I'm an undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with minors in Cell and Molecular Biology and Ethnic Studies. Having grown up in Nigeria, I grew to love sciences and knew I wanted to become a doctor - so cliche to say I know. I moved to the United States with the mentality of having a lot of opportunities at my disposal and I was determined to take advantage of it through my college years.During the spring semester of my freshman year, I joined the executive board of the Black Student Alliance (BSA) and co-founded the African and Caribbean Student Union (ACSU) with friends. My involvement on campus continued as a member of the Student Advisory Committee for the Wilson Medical Institute and the Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program.The summer after my sophomore year, I worked closely with my advisor on research focused on synthesizing beta amino alcohol using an asymmetric aminoborane catalyst. This experience taught me various techniques such as TLC and Column Chromatography. I continued this research throughout my junior year and had the honor of presenting our findings at the American Chemical Society conference in New Orleans and the Elkin Isaac Research Symposium at Albion College.While research has been a significant and enjoyable part of my journey, my ultimate goal is to attend medical school and become a cardiothoracic surgeon. My interest in medicine, combined with my leadership and service roles on campus, reflects my genuine commitment to healthcare. I'm also considering an MD-PhD program to further explore my passion for medicine and biomedical research. I'm actively seeking opportunities to advance in this field and I'm excited about the future prospects of my career.
