In the current role as Kitchen Supervisor for the Food and Nutrition Department of University of Colorado Health, I mentor culinary teams in providing exemplary customer service, adhering to all health and food safety policies, and I provide support in fast-paced problem solving while preparing meals for over 3,000 patients, visitors, and staff daily. I manage staff development reports which highlight employee training, progress, and collaborative action plans for continued success for 30 team members, and I coach assistant supervisors to facilitate and support professional mentoring relationships with coworkers. I also serve as a department representative on the UCH Safety Committee where I foster relationships with department seniors and other executive-level employees.

The mission of Work Options for Women is to help women gain the skills and self confidence they need to work their way out of poverty and become permanently and gainfully employed in the food service industry.Selected Accomplishments:Trains and coaches up to 5 interns in basic culinary skills, food safety policy, resume writing, and interview scenarios for periods of 4-6 weeks.Develops Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and implements pre and post assessments.Works shoulder to shoulder with interns and offers instructional advice in delivering expert culinary technique and sincere customer service.Assists interns in researching possible employment using the web and newspapers.Effectively manages Cafe Options to provide quality breakfast, lunch, and catered orders to the public while serving as a development advocate to the mission of Work Options for Women.Serves as Head Chef in the case of the Executive Chef's absence.

In my student teaching experience in Denver School of the Arts I taught 9th through 11th grade students, focusing on complex reading and writing practice, appropriate research techniques, and standardized test taking strategies. Regardless of the grade level, my teaching philosophy centers on student self-discovery and growth. My role as an educator is to guide students in surpassing their educational aspirations, strengthening their families and communities, and achieving immediate impact through social justice work.
