Research And Livestock Production Management Intern
This facility is a genetic research farm in partnership with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Clemson University. The main focus is to breed a heat-tolerant dairy cattle for counties in the equator belt. I spent my summer there where I had the opportunity to manage a team of interns and provide care for a split herd of 600 head of Angus cattle and Girolando cattle which is a dairy crossbreed of Gyr x Holstein. I also had the chance to breed cattle using AI and assist an embryologist using IVF. We calved out nearly 40 heifers in the summer heat and from this I was able to do a research project. I also took on several managerial duties and animal care duties during my internship in South Carolina.
