The longer version is that I'm an SA-admitted attorney, Chartered Management Accountant, corporate finance and BEE expert, and I get my kicks from building, fixing, scaling and selling fast-growing, technology-driven businesses. I spent my formative years as an M&A, corporate and commercial lawyer, working for high-end law firms in London and Johannesburg. Since leaving practice in 2010, I've had the fortune of working with some of South Africa's top entrepreneurs, start-ups and digital businesses, developing and selling new products and services, fixing a wide variety of operational and structural challenges, solving complex and highly technical problems, helping them secure funding and, ultimately, an exit. As an executive and business leader, my strengths lie in building and leading high-performance, multi-disciplinary teams, spanning Business Development and Corporate Sales, Finance, Operations, HR, Legal, BEE and IT. I am a seasoned campaigner in all matters relating to corporate structuring and finance: company acquisitions and sales; share subscriptions, sales and buybacks; BEE ownership deals; employee share schemes; business off-shoring; debt finance; and much, much more. In 2014 I managed the sale of digital marketing agency Quirk to WPP Plc, reportedly one of the biggest transactions in South African advertising history. I have a particular passion for education, transformation and media/digital law and currently serve as a director of the Advertising Regulatory Board. I established and chaired the Regulatory Affairs Council of the IAB SA (Interactive Advertising Bureau) between 2013 and 2017, and served as a Public Representative of the Press Council of South Africa between 2017 and 2020.
