Nutkhut (meaning mischievous in Sanskrit) is an artist-led creative company, producing and creating performances and events, ranging from large-scale festival to small-scale dance and theatre, and installations. Their work has been described as cross-art form and multi-disciplinary.We bring to life awe-inspiring stories, through immersive, joyous and playful world-class performances and installations. Our work combines South Asian culture with a distinctly British comedic sensibility and eccentricity. From small-scale dance and theatre to installations and large-scale festivals and parades.London is a real mixture of old and new South Asian diaspora communities. Although there are other cities that have seen swathes of migration in the past 20 years, none are as diverse as London. Cultural and artistic changes often happen in London first and then follow through with other places in the diaspora. At Nutkhut, we're fortunate to work in London and with these communities, creating multi-artform performances that combine dance, theatre, music and circus. All serving to strengthen their diasporic identity.We empower our employees and the artists we work with to grow professionally by providing constant opportunities for them to learn and develop their talents. Nutkhut have been involved with every aspect of the design and content of the event.Developing the London Mela, Europe’s largest South Asian outdoor festival was a complex endeavour. The biggest challenge in the first years was getting partners to invest. The concept of Mela was new to many people outside the South Asian communities. Many of the commercial organisations, arts councils, and local authorities did not want to invest. But we had a strong belief that Mela would grow. We built relationships with these partners by using data to demonstrate the success of early Melas. We returned to them and they started to invest. From the initial concept in 2003, the London Mela has grown to attract over 90,000 festival-goers each year. It is now an established highlight in the capital’scultural calendar.The London Mela has reinvented Mela outside of South Asia. It is one of the only Melas in the country to commission new work, providing a platform for emerging British artists as well as bringing traditional and classical art forms to a wider audience.❝Like all good festivals, there was an element of the wild and weird❞ - Daily TelegraphCritically acclaimed, it features the best in classical music, British Asian urban artists, dance, comedy and cabaret, Asian-influenced street theatre and circus, and exhibitions.
