I am a traveller - literally and metaphorically. I have been on the go, trying and learning new things. With varying degrees of success - but been glad for each. What do I have to show for it?* BOOKS: I have authored 9 printed and over 50 electronic books so far. You can see my portfolio at the http://ajayjain.com.* KUNZUM TRAVEL CAFE: Set up in June 2010, it is an idea that took a life of its own. Initially a gallery to showcase my photographic art and books over coffee, it has emerged as the most popular community of travellers in India. Literally, a Face-to-Facebook for travellers. It is a cultural hub for a lot more including film screenings, travel talks, book discussions, photography workshops, heritage walks, business networking events and more. We are currently expanding the cafe through franchising.* ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Besides my current ventures, I have dabbled in IT, Sports Management and Newspaper Publishing. I am also invested in real estate.* SPEAKER: I am a regular at events in India and internationally, sharing stories from my varied experiences.* JOURNALIST: Somewhere, I will always be a journalist - especially after my stints as a reporter for newspapers.* EDUCATION: Mechanical Engineering, MBA, MA - Journalism (you also find it a strange combination?)

Set as a coffee table book, it is printed at one of the finest presses using high quality paper and printing processes. The size is a very handy 8”x10” with a hard cover and lay flat binding for easy browsing.A NOTE ON WHAT WENT INTO THE CREATION OF THE BOOKAjay Jain has been road tripping across India since 2007. He has learnt that the best way to know the country is by road – because much of what India is has not been documented in any guides. There is a surprise and a delight waiting at every milestone. The book is a compilation of just some of the portraits he shot over 10 years, driving 100,000+ kms in the process. He takes his car from Delhi and goes as far as the road allows. His biggest journey was the Great Himalayan Drive – he covered the entire span of the mountains by road including Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Nepal, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. He had to take a U-turn at Kibithu, the easternmost motorable point in India on the Chinese border.Other big journeys included the one from North to South covering Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala. The collection of these portraits would not have been possible had he not explored the way he did – and there could not have been a faster way to achieve this goal. And we get a chance to live it only once. No re-takes. It is a one way street. And, barring some real bad luck, we will all hit 60 someday. It will then be a time to reflect back on the life gone by. And take stock. Of what we have done and not done over the years. Decisions taken and been glad. Or regretted. The quality of life led. And when you do, would you want to feel stupid about it? And kick yourself for pursuing what seems insignificant on hindsight, in the process wasting an opportunity to have lived life to the full? This book is a compilation of ideas to make your life more fulfilling, enriched and healthy. It is not a to-do manual, but offers a suggestive course. To prompt you to think about the choices you must make. After all, it is your life. How do you want to live yours?More on the book including sample chapters: http://dontfeelstupidat60.com Show less

For one, it does not list everything for a traveller as other guide books promise to. Delhi has too much for even the weightiest tome to cover it all.Second, it comes with a flashlight thrown it. No, don’t look around the packaging for it – it is in the written word. Rather than just list places, and rattling off a brief history and essential facts, I have adopted an anecdotal and opinionated style to the writing. Popular attractions are shown in a new light, and lamps have been lit on the path to other gems. I am not just telling you about, say, Mehrauli, I am giving you reasons to go there and what to do when there. Travelling with this book makes the passive into active. And thirdly, it comes peppered with imagery. Seeing is being tempted! Why 101? So the book could be wrapped up. You can go on writing about Delhi till the cows come home, visit the neighbours, party, get drunk, make babies, step out again and repeat the cycle many times over – and the task would still be unfinished. A line had to be drawn, leaving the rest for another day.Importantly, it is an attempt to bring fun into travel. This trade often takes itself too seriously, droning on about facts and figures without caring to see who has dozed off. A touch of the whacky, humorous, eccentric, silly and daring has been thrown in for good measure. The book has been roughly divided into sections, starting with the historical in chronological order. The rest has been divided into zones for easier navigation on the ground, but there are no formal boundaries. Show less

No moment repeats itself here. There is always something new to discover about the land and its people. Birds and animals always surprise you.A travel handbook on Ladakh is thus best written in a whimsical manner. Postcards from Ladakh is a collection of frames, frozen circa 2009, when the author drove for over 10,000 kms (6,000 miles) in and around Ladakh. It can be a guide to the traveller. And serve as a time capsule for future generations. Neither guidebook nor encyclopedia, it is intended to give a flavour of what Ladakh holds for you.Ajay Jain has written the book as if he were writing postcards to you from the scene. To share memorable moments, valuable insights. And he has clicked photographs to complement the text. Start reading from any page.“On a personal note, Ladakh has touched my life in many ways. Its people have reminded me of all the goodness we are born with. Spiritual leaders have inspired me to live a balanced life without necessarily subscribing to religious beliefs. Negotiating the tough terrain has made me seek adventure. Ladakh has made me reflect on my priorities in life,” feels the author.Ladakh teaches you how to lead a full and happy life. They shower you with words of wisdom, keep your mind sharp as you unravel their cryptic messages, tickle your imagination, amuse you and entertain you. In public interest, they lend a hand to Alcoholics Anonymous. Since journeys are meant to be a pleasure, they remind you to ‘Smile Please.’The entertainment for the traveler does not stop at this. There are the limitless public notices, outdoor advertisements and storefront signs with their own idiosyncrasies and eccentricities. Who needs comic strips in this country? The author, Ajay Jain, drove over 10,000 kilometers (6,000 miles) in India to put together this collection of signs. With a bit of witty commentary thrown in, this book will be a journey unlike any other you may have undertaken. Resulting in you letting out a ‘Peep Peep’ of delight. Show less
