Aaron Baker holds a M.A. in economics from George Mason University, where he also earned a B.A. in economics and a B.A. in government and international politics.He was recognized for scholarly excellence in applied Austrian Economics by receiving the second place F.A. Hayek Award for his essay explaining how the financial global crisis of 2008-2009 demonstrated that the pivotal debate in 21st century economics remains that of Keynes versus Hayek.As GMU OSCAR Fellow he worked with Donald J. Boudreaux to conduct independent comparative economic research on living standards in America, Norway, France, and the United Kingdom. The research focused on developing an alternative methodology to measure consumer purchasing power. He used MS Excel to create a labor-cost index for a consumer basket of 30 goods and services to make determinations relative to labor cost and prices across multiple countries.While earning his master’s degree he gained more experience in research, data collection, and in performing quantitative analysis using STATA. His econometric projects assessed the impact of spending per student in public schools, examined wage differences in gender, and tracked income patterns among youth. He is particularly good at using his technical knowledge of MS Excel and STATA to perform quantitative analysis of data to assess the impact of public policies on the economy. He is currently looking for industries where his ability to perform quantitative analysis would be of value.
