Alex is a highly experienced expedition leader (holder of the International Mountain Leader award) and outdoor instructor. Having escaped a successful career in publishing and PR (by running off to the mountains), Alex now only occasionaly moonlights as a journalist/copywriter.As a leader for adult trekking challenges and youth development expeditions, Alex aims to inspire his clients and the next generation to travel widely and empathetically. Alex always tries to impart the skills and knowledge that allow people to enjoy their time in wilderness environments: 'thrive not just survive' being the key to driving long-term engagement. If that fails, he resorts to feeding people chocolate cake.In the last few years, Alex has led expeditions to Peru, Iceland, Bolivia, Zambia, Finland, Slovenia, Vietnam, Ecuador & The Galapagos, Ghana, Nicaragua, Cambodia, South Africa & Lesotho, Nepal (6 times), Tanzania (Kilimanjaro twice), Nicaragua, Mozambique, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, India, Borneo, Malawi, Indonesia, Costa Rica and Sweden's Jamtland mountains. In 2006, in his suit-wearing years, Alex started Rugby Player Magazine, an online publication that held a key role in O2’s activation of their sponsorship of the England Rugby Team. From that, Key Player Publishing evolved and Alex went on to act as commissioning editor for Sky Sports’ weekly Ezine, The RFU’s Junior Supporters' Club magazine and sponsorship/branding publications for numerous blue chip clients, including Guinness, Powerade and Ballantine's.A long-time member of the Rugby Writers’ Club, Alex has been active in the sport for many years, from chairing and coaching his university club as a perennially injured scrum-half, to stints as a pundit on CNN International and occasional master of ceremonies for the likes of Rugby Canada.
