As CTO, I was working with retail (primarily big box) companies and financial institutions while I built up a small team of local software developers (for on and offshore development).I performed presales, managed proof of concept developments throughout South East Asia with both proprietary and opensource technology and mentored my staff with regards to client relations, agile project methodology and continually striving for excellence.It was particularly challenging moving countries and learning to work in such a markedly different culture but I learned much about the value of open lines of communication and truly active participation in relating to new people and cultures. So while very challenging, it was also very rewarding. I had the opportunity to explore the cultural differences in Asia and in the end, gain a much greater appreciation for the diversity that exists there.

In this role, I was responsible for the build, test & lifecycle management of the Telstra public cloud software.I managed a team of 100+ developers, testers and operations staff managing public cloud software platform mixed across 3 cities and many different vendors.During this time, we engaged a number of large system integrators. Ran a small team to provide manual workarounds for deliveries (in an Agile SDLC) that were not fully automated. The role was created with none of the required budget and so my time was spent negotiating with numerous business groups to fund initiatives to automate items after they were placed in production while maintaining staff motivation. Customer satisfaction through process improvement provided a common focus and motivation for me and my team and was often the only way I was able to obtain funds from other areas of the business.Performance in this role was directly responsible for me being approached for the following technology manager role.

In the early stages of mobile video, Telstra built a content delivery platform to provide video on demand to mobile devices. I was the subject matter expert for three interrelated platforms that provided streaming, mobile billing and premium messaging.This role saw me managing multiple vendors who were supplying content to Telstra. Architecting solutions for them to integrate with the Telstra platforms while also providing support to internal stakeholders and marrying business requirements to technical capabilities and future improvements.Integral part of the entire SDLC from concept development, through implementation and final delivery in to the marketplace.Projects included:* Mobile Foxtel * Telstra Beijing Olympics on Mobile* AFL mobile live streamingamong numerous other mobile video projects Telstra delivered during this nascent period in mobile streaming.
