Amy began her career in sustainable development and construction and in the ensuing years, developed a reputation as a thought leader in Iowa’s renewable energy industry. She has played a leadership role in developing go-to-market strategies for major sectors of Iowa’s emerging renewable energy economy, including solar and energy storage, and recently played a key role in developing Iowa's renewable hydrogen techno-economic analysis. Amy co-founded Ideal Energy in 2009 with her husband and Former US Navy SEAL Troy Van Beek. At Ideal Energy, she serves as the Chief Marketing Officer and creative director. She oversees the direction and development of Ideal Energy’s white papers, educational resources, and market strategy. Additionally, Amy directs Ideal Energy’s political initiatives, engagement with NGOs, and industry lobbying efforts. Her strategies helped Ideal Energy earn a ranking as the top Iowa-based EPC solar contractor on Solar Builder’s 2022 Top Solar Contractor list. Throughout the company's history, Amy has served in several roles, including Chief Financial Officer & Controller. Before co-founding Ideal Energy, Amy owned and operated Greenfield Properties, a design/ build firm. She developed several subdivisions in Southeast Iowa known for using natural and non-toxic building materials, high-performance design, and renewable energy. Her work included development at the Abundance EcoVillage, a modern, off-grid community in Fairfield, Iowa which earned features in several national publications and on Oprah’s Next Chapter.
