Provide ongoing legal advice, guidance and briefings to the Mayor, City Council, Citizen Commissions and all City DepartmentsRepresent the City in civil actions where the City is a party by researching, drafting and filing legal briefs, conducting and defending depositions, and arguing before state and federal judges, administrative law judges and hearing examinersSpecialize in Public Records Act responses by working with City Clerk and Police Department Records Division to organize records, timely respond to records requests and protect sensitive information using exemptions and protective orders when neededWork with Human Resources to resolve personnel matters, including internal investigations, terminations, appeals to the Employment Security Department and complaints to the Equal Employment Opportunity CommissionPrepare ordinances, regulations, contracts, and other legal documents ensuring compliance with local, state and federal law and adequate legal protection of the CityMonitor ongoing litigation, including litigation being defended by legal counsel appointed by the City or by the City's insurance carrierDevelop and provide City-wide training on public records, records retention and contracts processing
