    I was engaged within this central government post to remodel the operational infrastructure and consolidate two data centres into one. The primary focus was on the creation of a service support model that would meet the changing business requirements for both the short term, by fixing initial failures and service problems, and the long term, remodelling by mapping the interdependencies of the projects in the department to meet central government policy guidelines. I was responsible for and achieved consolidation of the hardware infrastructure space into one data centre location, which included moving 40% of the infrastructure from dispersed computer rooms following the merger of the Meat Hygiene Service in to the Food Standards Agency. This incorporated the upgrading of the power and air cooling systems to meet the centralised model. This transformation also included decommissioning and virtualisation of systems to ensure maximum benefits were achieved.Initial findings presented a lack of governance and no framework for the technical teams to work too. The initial issues were easily resolved with the creation of robust risk (including problem and incident) management processes and the creation of the configuration management database. Longer term aspects included training and developing staff to ensure consistent representation to the services offered along with delivery of compliance regulations for both industry best practice and central government guidelines. I incorporated commercial practices and introduced new contracts with our major suppliers to meet the needs of the business.
