I study interactions between the host immune system and the viruses which colonize the gut. I'm interested in how these infections remain asymptomatic, and why they sometimes progress to disease. To do this, I study both the virus-specific adaptive cells as well as the innate cells which activate them.

I ran an introductory science course for adults historically excluded from post-secondary education. Through twice-weekly science classes, life skills workshops, and an educational grant program, we supported students re-entry into education. In tandem, the program increases public access to UBC and provides opportunities for faculty to reach diverse audiences. To accomplish this, I hired, trained, and worked with a team of staff and volunteers.
